Ok I really am useless at updating any of these pages! Too busy doing other things I think.

Poppy is nearly 6 months old now! Time's gone so quickly, she's growing up fast!
Recently she's started to eat solids and in the last few days has learnt how to roll over, so does it all the time now!

We've got 100's of pictures which Jo and lots of other people keep asking me for.
I'm writing a new site for strzelecki.co.uk, which should provide a login so the whole web doesn't see every picture. It's getting there slowly!

Checkup!

Posted on 7th February, 2008
Poppy's 6 week checkout today. All was fineSmile.
She's not 9Kg as the doctor first thought, 9lb 1/2oz after the scales had been set correctly.
Now she has to have her first lot of injections. I bet she'll love that!
I've also discovered she likes classical guitar music, anything else keeps her awake. So we may have to buy a few John Wiliams CDs.

Oh dear, no update for ages!

Things are going well. We had a great Christmas even though Poppy didn't have a clue what was going on.
We've had people staying every weekend since she was born, which has been great. Next weekend should be the first with no visitors!
Poppy is doing fine. Feeding like mad and growing quickly. Still haven't got her body clock sorted out through so she spends a lot of the night awake!
Thanks to everyone who's bought her clothes, we've got tonnes of stuff now, shame she'll grow out of a lot of it so quickly!

Jo has been asking me to put more pictures up for ages. I will try and do this very soon, we have a lot!

Hospital check

Posted on 21st December, 2007
Didn't get a lot of sleep last night (about 2 hours!). Poppy was hungry most of the night!
Took her back to the hospital today, they weren't aware we were coming, we were told to go in today when we were discharged!
Anyway, the paediatrician took some of Poppy's blood and she was weight and checked over. He seemed a lot happier with her and she has gain some weight, so they don't have any excuses to make her stay.

Phoned up tonight for the blood results as requested by the doctor only to be told that he had got them but had failed to write them down for the other staff to relay to me, which apparently means the results must have been good, typical!

Feeling a lot more positive now...more photos to be uploaded!

Home at last.

Posted on 19th December, 2007
We've managed to get Poppy and Jo home at last.
It was a bit of a battle with the hospital, who seemed to be inventing reasons to keep Poppy in after saying we were ok to go home yesterday.

Anyway, to cut a long story short we got them to agree to let us go home and a Health Visitor would come over today to check on Poppy and decide whether she had to go back in.
The reason for this was that they told us that Poppy seemed to be getting an increase in her red blood cell count (probably a sign of dehydration, not surprising in a boiling hot hospital where she can't feed properly because of ll the stress).

The health visitor has just been and checked Poppy and she is fine. We just have to take her back to the hospital tomorrow for another check.

I have a daughter!

Jo holding PoppyWell it all started kicking off at around 1am on 15th December 2007. I called the ambulance at around 2.40am and after struggling to get Jo to take any gas and air we got her downstairs, outside and into the waiting ambulance.

They wizzed us off and got us to the birthing centre in Braintree at 3.30am. 47 minutes later and with no pain relief Jo gave birth to Poppy Susan at 4.17am, weighing a healthy 7lb and 2.5oz. I am so proud!

We spent the night at the birthing centre together, which was brilliant. The staff were great. Unfortunately Poppy's skin was still very red after 12 hours so we were moved to St. John's Hospital to have her checked out. She was put into the Neo Natal ward and Jo was moved upstairs. Not ideal. The doctors started Poppy on a dose of antibiotics (Gentamicin) as a precuation while bloods were sent off to be tested.

Poppy and Jo have been at the hospital since Saturday afternoon. Poppy seems fine but Jo is very stressed by the situation (and lack of communicatiom from the hospital staff).

Yesterday morning they inserted a tube through Poppy's nose so that she could be fed Formula to keep her energy levels up, helping her to fight any possible infection and because her respiratory rate was a little above average. At this point she hadn't started feeding normally.

This morning (17/12/07) she was moved up to be with Jo after we were shown how to feed her via the tube and the level of monitoring she required was reduced. The made us a lot happier.

Poppy didn't need a tube feed today as she started feeding normally. They're still not allowed home yet until the blood results come back with the all clear and Poppy's course of antibiotics is complete.

Hopefully that will be later on today, so fingers crossed!
